The ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental wellness.
Abraham Maslow
The benefits of living in the NOW are nothing new; great spiritual teachers all through the ages have been encouraging us to practice this.
If we live in the NOW, nothing can cause us pain, make us worry or feel fearful. It is only when our mind takes us into the past or the future, that our mind begins to feel disturbed.
When we fret about something we did or didn't do years ago. Or when we worry about all the work that we have ahead of us to complete. But in the NOW, all is calm, all is quiet, all is peaceful.
The best way to bring yourself into the NOW is to focus on your breath. Observe the breath entering in through the nostrils and down into the body on the inhalation. Observe the breath as it leaves the nostrils on the exhalation. If you mind becomes distracted, just bring it back to observing the breath. It's a good start. It takes practice. Don't give up!
